During the ongoing crisis that has emerged due to novel coronavirus, cultural habits are changing across the world. Discouraging the habit of kissing or shaking hands and encouraging people to instead greet another one by doing Namaste is also being seen. However, there are many cultural habits in Indian, that the global community may find interesting.
1. Drinking Water
Indians drink water from bottles without allowing their lips to touch the mouth of the bottle. So, now I am going to show you how it works. This reduces the probability of transmission of infectious agents through saliva.
2. Taking Shower After Attending a Funeral
Indians take shower whenever they attend a funeral. And until one does that, one is not even allowed to touch anywhere or touch anyone else in the house.
3. Put Off Shoes Outside House
If you visit a traditional Indian House, you may notice that shoes are strictly placed outside the main gate. It is not allowed to bring them in. Also, washing hands after you touch your shoes and washing feet after you take off your shoes is recommended.
There is a study that support that practice. "There are a large number of bacteria both at bottom and inside of shoes.", said Dr. Charles Gerba, Microbiologist and Professor at University of Arizona.
4. Absence of Kissing Sacred Objects
In Dharmic (Cultural) Indian Traditions, practice of kissing a sacred object is almost absent. For ex, kissing holy cross is a common practice in many Christian Gatherings.
It doesn't hurt to adopt good habits from Indians.
5. Using Spices
Indians use rich variety of spices in their foods. A research shows that these spices not only enhance the taste of food but it also inherits some anti-bacterial properties.
The End Notes
Indian Tradition may also be helpful when you are facing a situation of #lockdown .
Yoga and meditation can help you stay fit and mentally stable while you remain isolated and it can also help you stop the transmission through the gym equipment. You can learn to pray at homes like Indians and Hindus. Well, that's all for today and I will be writing more and more articles soon. Till then have a good one.
Cheers!
