A comet under this name was discovered in December last year. COMET C / 2019 Y4 will pass the perihelion on May 31, 2020, at a distance of 0.25 astronomical units. And always after a similar discovery, people are excited to ask - can a comet be seen with the naked eye? These days the comet's apparent glow is about 8.5 mag, and is in the constellation Ursa Major. Comet C / 2019 Y4 moves toward the central part of the solar system, except for small telescopes - now visible in binoculars as a small sphere. But something unexpected happened, and it surprised the scientists. Following the brightness of the comet, the brightness curve grew much more than expected. Comet C / 2019 Y4 is assumed to be in the process of decomposition, but observations have not confirmed this. There is still a rapid increase in brightness and the comet goes steady with its trajectory. Mid-May is expected to shine 3.5 mag. and then the comet may also be visible to the naked eye. In those days, it is best to monitor it before dawn or just after dark. May 22 is the young moon, and then the sky will be without the luster of the moon. If you have clear skies, you will have Comet C / 2019 Y4 (ATLAS) with 1.5 magnitude above the northern horizon. Learn Astronomy and Astrophotography.
