Why Headphones or Earphones usually stops functioning from one side?

Have you ever noticed that one side of your Earphones or Headphones usually stops working after some time? I bet you have noticed that. This is very common. So, why they usually stops functioning?

Let's go deeper.

The Reason

The thinner wires inside your connecting cable are the individual channel signal wires, while in most combined stereo cables the woven ground/shield serves both channels, but is made up of many spread out wires and/or a foil which is less likely to break than the small positive wires under constant flexing. If the ground broke, both channels would die at the same time (not what your question was about), you'd just say the phones died and replace them. If you have separate wires going to each earpiece and one fails, well, that's just because they're separate and sooner or later one of them will fail first, but the other will still be fine. It's like asking why in a 2-light fixture one bulb always burns out before the other. Your best recourse is to try to get good phones with replaceable wires, like many studio units - Sennheiser has many models with inexpensive replacement cables, for instance. They know these wires get yanked and bent and generally fail long before the actual drivers.

The End Notes

That's all in this post. I will surely post more interesting stuff like that. Please share your views in the comment section below. Cheers!
